Lucknow Man's Heroic Pursuit of Chain-Snatchers Ends in Tragic Death

A wave of shock and sorrow has gripped Lucknow following the untimely demise of a 30-year-old cloth merchant, Rahul Gupta, who tragically lost his life while bravely pursuing chain-snatchers who had targeted his wife. The heart-wrenching incident unfolded on Sunday night near his residence in the Gudamba area, leaving his family devastated and the community reeling.

According to reports, Rahul's wife, Shivani Gupta, was returning home when she became the victim of a brazen attack by two bike-borne miscreants.

In a swift and terrifying move, they attempted to snatch her chain. Rahul, witnessing the horrifying assault, immediately sprang into action. He managed to grab one of the perpetrators, but the duo, desperate to escape, pushed him away and sped off on their motorcycle.

Fueled by a mix of anger and protective instinct, Rahul wasted no time.

He mounted his scooter and embarked on a daring chase, determined to apprehend the criminals. The pursuit was intense, with Rahul relentlessly following the snatchers through the dark streets. However, in a cruel twist of fate, his pursuit ended in disaster. His scooter collided violently with a divider or a roadside tree, throwing him off the vehicle and leaving him critically injured.

Bystanders rushed to his aid, quickly transporting him to the SPM Civil Hospital.

Given the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently referred to the King George's Medical University (KGMU) trauma centre. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Rahul Gupta succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a grief-stricken family and a community grappling with the senseless loss of a courageous individual.

Rahul's family is consumed by inconsolable grief.

His wife, Shivani, and other relatives described him as a kind, helpful, and good-natured person. His sudden and tragic passing has cast a dark shadow over their lives, leaving an irreplaceable void.

The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against unidentified chain-snatchers under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 304A (causing death by negligence) and 392 (robbery).

Investigations are ongoing, with authorities working tirelessly to identify and apprehend the culprits responsible for this heinous act and the resulting tragedy. However, as of now, the perpetrators remain at large.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the escalating crime rates, particularly chain-snatching incidents, that have plagued Lucknow recently.
