Commuters and pedestrians alike woke up to scenes of significant inundation in key localities such as Ultadanga, CIT Road, Shyambazar, Behala, and Ballygunge. Areas like Thanthania, Amherst Street, and parts of North and South Kolkata also reported severe water accumulation, making navigation a nightmare.

Morning rush hour traffic was thrown into disarray, with vehicles crawling through submerged roads, adding hours to daily commutes. Public transportation, including buses and trams, struggled to operate efficiently, leaving many stranded. In response to the developing crisis, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has activated its monitoring mechanisms, with officials keeping a close watch on the situation.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast indicating that more heavy rainfall is on the cards for Kolkata and its adjoining districts over the next 24-48 hours.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had previously issued a stern warning about the impending heavy rains due to this low-pressure system, urging citizens to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
