Kejriwal family receives SIR notices over alleged incomplete voter enumeration forms

The Election Registration Officer (ERO) in New Delhi has sent Special Intensive Revision (SIR) notices to Arvind Kejriwal, his wife Sunita, son Pulkit and his parents Gobind Ram and Gita Devi. According to the ERO, the enumeration forms they filed were missing information needed to link them with the most recent electoral roll.

In a formal press note, the officer explained that the forms “were not complete in terms of details which would have enabled linkage of themselves with the electoral roll of the last revision of the respective states.” Because of those gaps, the names ended up in the “unmapped with last SIR” category for Delhi.

The notices, issued on Saturday, affect six voters out of 110 in Part‑51, KG Marg, New Delhi Assembly constituency who received similar alerts. Kejriwal himself is a registered voter in the New Delhi‑40 constituency, but the incomplete paperwork placed his family’s entries in a pending‑verification list.

The ERO stressed that this is a routine step mandated by the Election Commission of India (ECI). “As per procedures established and communicated by the ECI, notices are being issued to electors who could not be linked with the electoral roll of the last revision and those having logical discrepancies,” the statement read. Recipients are expected to submit the required documents by the October 29, 2026 deadline.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) quickly took to X, questioning the process and asking, “Is everything happening in this country just to keep the Supreme Lord happy? How is it possible that the names of three‑time Delhi Chief Minister @ArvindKejriwal and his family are missing from the Delhi voter list?”

Earlier in the week, the ERO clarified that a name’s absence from the draft roll does not automatically mean ineligibility. The Special Intensive Revision, launched under ECI direction, aims to ensure that no eligible citizen is left out and no ineligible person is included. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) conducted house‑to‑house visits, distributed enumeration forms and verified them as per the May 14 instructions.

According to the ERO, the draft roll released on August 31, 2026 was prepared based on the submitted enumeration forms of those already on the roll before the SIR began. Anyone whose name is missing can still file a claim for inclusion using Form 6, along with supporting documents, during the claims period that runs until September 30.

In total, over 4.7 million names were deleted from the draft rolls for the national capital, a figure that has drawn scrutiny from political parties and media alike. The controversy surrounding Kejriwal’s family is just one facet of a broader cleanup effort that the Election Commission says is essential for fair upcoming elections.
