Kalaburagi's Resilience Tested: DC Rushes Aid to Rain-Ravaged Villages

Kalaburagi district recently bore the brunt of relentless downpours, leaving a trail of devastation across its agricultural fields and residential areas. In a swift and decisive response, District Commissioner Fouzia Taranum undertook a comprehensive tour of the rain-battered regions, personally assessing the extent of the damage and galvanizing the administration into action.

The DC's inspection covered several critically affected villages spanning Kalaburagi, Kalagi, and Aland taluks.

Her itinerary included Narona, Honnahalli, Kamalapur, Kaddargi, Khajuri, Gola (K), and Koulaga (B) – areas where the fury of nature was most evident. Accompanied by local officials, Taranum witnessed first-hand the heartbreaking sight of submerged fields and damaged homes.

The primary concern was the widespread destruction of crops.

Paddy, tur, and green gram, which form the lifeline of many farmers in the region, lay ruined under sheets of water. Beyond agriculture, the incessant rains had wreaked havoc on infrastructure. Several houses were damaged, trees lay uprooted, and vital roads were either washed away or rendered impassable, severing connectivity to remote pockets.

The overflowing of tanks further exacerbated the situation, posing a continued threat to low-lying areas.

Responding to the grim reality, DC Taranum issued immediate and stringent instructions to concerned officers. A rapid survey of crop losses and house damages is to be undertaken without delay, ensuring that no affected family is overlooked.

Emphasizing the need for prompt relief, she announced that those with partially damaged houses would receive an immediate aid of Rs 10,000, while families whose homes were completely destroyed would be compensated with Rs 5 lakh – a critical lifeline during these challenging times.

Beyond financial assistance, the district administration is committed to providing comprehensive support.

Officials have been directed to ensure that affected families are provided with adequate food, safe shelter, and essential medical care. The restoration of basic amenities is also a top priority, with a focus on swiftly repairing damaged roads and reinstating power supply to all affected areas.

The District Disaster Response Force (DDRF) has been fully activated, working in tandem with taluk-level officers to manage the crisis efficiently.
