Indian Football League’s 2026‑27 Season Set to Kick Off on Oct 30 with Fresh Venues

On Tuesday, the AIFF Governing Council gathered at the Football House in New Delhi – a room buzzing with representatives from all eleven clubs – to seal the calendar for the next Indian Football League campaign.

After a quick look back at the 2025‑26 season, officials were heartened to note that television ratings had surged to four times the numbers seen in 2024‑25. “The fans are listening, they’re watching, and they’re hungry for more,” said AIFF Deputy Secretary‑General M Satyanarayan, smiling as he lifted the new fixture list.

The big headline? The league will kick off on October 30, 2026. But it’s not just a new start date – the IFL is expanding its footprint. For the first time, matches will be staged in Nagaland and Odisha, taking the beautiful game to two states that have long craved top‑tier football.

Alongside the venue shuffle, a modest rule change was approved: each side may field a maximum of three foreign players at any given moment. It’s a nod to nurturing local talent while still keeping the international flair that fans love.

Satyanarayan added, “Last season, despite being a shortened campaign, we saw an explosion of interest. This year we’re aiming for a full home‑and‑away schedule, new clubs, new cities – it’s an exciting time for Indian football.”

The meeting also brushed on the league’s charter, budget outlook and sponsorship packages, but the most tangible discussion was with Prasar Bharati. CEO Gaurav Dwivedi met the AIFF delegation to iron out broadcast details, hopeful that the partnership will once again deliver smooth, nation‑wide coverage.

With the groundwork laid, clubs are already gearing up – training camps are being booked, kits are being stitched, and supporters in the northeast and east are counting the days. If the viewership surge is any indicator, the 2026‑27 IFL could be the most watched season yet.
