High-Speed Horror: Driver Clocked at 168 km/h on Highway 174 Faces Stunt Driving Charges

An Ottawa driver is facing severe consequences after being caught traveling at a shocking 168 kilometres per hour on Highway 174. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported the incident, which occurred on Sunday evening near Jeanne d'Arc Boulevard, highlighting yet another dangerous display of stunt driving on our roadways.

Officers from the Ottawa OPP detachment were conducting routine patrols when they clocked the speeding vehicle.

The driver was immediately pulled over and subsequently charged with stunt driving, a serious offence under Ontario's Highway Traffic Act.

The repercussions for such a flagrant disregard for road safety are swift and substantial. Upon being charged, the driver's licence was instantly suspended for seven days, and their vehicle was impounded for the same duration.

These immediate penalties serve as a critical deterrent, temporarily removing dangerous drivers and their vehicles from the road.

However, the initial penalties are just the beginning. Should the driver be convicted of stunt driving, they could face a hefty fine ranging from $2,000 to $10,000.

Additionally, they would incur six demerit points on their driving record, and could face a further licence suspension of up to two years. In some severe cases, a jail term may also be imposed, underscoring the gravity of this offence.
