Former Metro Vancouver Hockey Coach Faces Grave Historical Sex Charges

A former minor hockey coach from Metro Vancouver, Thomas Patrick Casey, also known as 'Tom' or 'Tommy,' is now facing a dozen serious charges related to sexual assault and sexual interference. The 70-year-old Coquitlam resident was arrested on July 26, 2023, following an extensive investigation by the Coquitlam RCMP’s Special Victims Unit into historical allegations.

The charges against Casey include six counts of sexual assault and six counts of sexual interference, stemming from alleged incidents involving three separate individuals.

These deeply disturbing allegations are reported to have occurred over a span of two decades, between 1980 and 2000, in the Metro Vancouver communities of Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam, and New Westminster.

Casey has a long history in the local minor hockey scene. He was notably associated with the Port Coquitlam Minor Hockey Association and the New Westminster Minor Hockey Association during the periods when these alleged offenses took place.

Beyond his coaching roles, Casey was also known to have worked at Canlan Ice Sports, more specifically at the Burnaby 8 Rinks facility, further entrenching his presence within the regional hockey community.

Authorities have confirmed that Casey made his initial appearance in Port Coquitlam provincial court on August 15, 2023, where the formal legal proceedings began.

The gravity of these charges has sent ripples through the communities where Casey once coached and mentored young athletes.
