Congress MP Mallu Ravi Files Police Complaint Against K.T. Rama Rao Over Alleged Insult to Telangana Chief Minister

On Wednesday, Congress MP Mallu Ravi went to the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police with a formal complaint against K.T. Rama Rao, popularly known as KTR, the working president of the BRS and former state minister.

Ravi says KTR, while speaking to the media, called the Telangana chief minister "CM Revanth Reddy chillar na koduku" – a phrase the MP describes as not just a jab at policy but a outright personal insult.

"It was a grossly abusive, demeaning remark that crossed the line of legitimate political criticism," Ravi wrote in his petition, adding that such language could tarnish the CM’s reputation and invite public ridicule.

The complaint asks the police to preserve all electronic traces of the comment – TV clips, newspaper excerpts and social‑media shares – and to register a criminal case under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions for defamation (Section 356) and intentional insult (Section 352), along with relevant clauses of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

Ravi urges the Hyderabad police to act swiftly and impartially, emphasizing that elected representatives should not be allowed to weaponize personal attacks for political gain.

As the matter heads to investigation, observers note that the case could test the boundaries of free speech versus defamation in India’s evolving legal landscape.
