Congress Minister Konda Surekha Ousted from Telangana Cabinet After Party High Command Nod

On Thursday, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced that Congress MLA Konda Surekha would no longer serve as the state’s minister for Endowments. It wasn’t a sudden whim; the removal came after the Congress high command gave its nod, citing a disciplinary case that was beginning to hurt the party’s image.

Congress MP Mallu Ravi, speaking to ANI, tried to put the decision into perspective. He said the central leadership had reviewed the controversy surrounding Surekha and concluded that keeping her in the cabinet was more damaging than letting her go. “The party’s high command approved the move because her remarks were hurting both the Congress and the state government,” Ravi explained.

The controversy isn’t limited to Surekha’s own statements. Earlier this week her daughter, Konda Sushmitha, made a sharp comment targeting both CM Revanth Reddy and Parkal MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy. The remark sparked an internal uproar, prompting the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee’s disciplinary panel to issue a show‑cause notice to Surekha.

Surekha, however, pushed back. In a brief interview she claimed no fault, saying she never herself levelled any allegations against the chief minister or the party. “My daughter expressed frustration on her own. I’m not responsible for what she said,” she told reporters.

Adding another layer to the drama, Telangana Development Board Vice‑Chairman G. Chinna Reddy was also under scrutiny for allegedly making derogatory comments about the AICC and PCC presidents. Both cases were handed to Mallu Ravi, who chairs the party’s disciplinary committee. He said he had compiled a detailed report and recommended strict action to prevent further damage to the Congress brand.

The whole episode has revived old tensions in the Parkal constituency, where Revanth Reddy recently campaigned for sitting MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy. Supporters of the ruling coalition see the removal as a necessary step to keep the party’s narrative clean, while opponents argue it underscores deeper factional rifts within the Congress.

For now, Konda Surekha will watch from the sidelines, while the party wrestles with internal discipline and the ever‑present challenge of maintaining unity ahead of the next election cycle.
