Children's Stroller Dragged in Horrific LA Hit-and-Run, Baby and Toddler Critically Injured

Late Friday night, a truly horrifying hit-and-run incident unfolded, leaving two incredibly vulnerable victims—a baby and a toddler—in critical condition. Their stroller was reportedly struck and dragged by a vehicle, a chilling detail that just amplifies the tragedy of it all.

The incident, which occurred in the heart of South L.A., saw a 27-year-old woman pushing her 1-year-old and 3-year-old children in a double stroller. Suddenly, without warning, a vehicle collided with them, sending shockwaves through the community. Instead of stopping to render aid, or even just to check, the driver allegedly fled the scene, leaving the little ones severely injured and the adult in unimaginable distress. It’s a gut-wrenching thought, isn’t it?

Thankfully, witnesses didn't stand idly by. Their quick actions were crucial; they managed to track down the vehicle and, thankfully, detain the suspected driver until authorities could arrive. Police later identified the man as 22-year-old Jose Mendoza. He was subsequently taken into custody, facing a string of serious charges, including felony hit-and-run, felony child endangerment, and driving under the influence (DUI).

As of now, both young children are hospitalized and remain in critical condition. It’s an agonizing waiting game for their family, and indeed for anyone who hears this story. The fact that two innocent lives, so young and helpless, are fighting for survival due to what appears to be such a reckless act, really puts things into perspective. Investigators suspect that alcohol and/or drugs played a role in the incident, which only adds to the layers of senselessness here.
