Chandigarh Terror Plot Foiled: Three Alleged BKI Operatives Sent to Police Remand

In a significant development stemming from the alarming Chandigarh explosives case, three young individuals, reportedly linked to the proscribed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), have been ordered into police custody for five days. The accused, identified as 19-year-old Lovepreet Singh from Sarhali village in Tarn Taran district, Jashanpreet Singh alias Jashandeep, 21, from Deobath village in Tarn Taran, and Prabhpreet Singh alias Prabh, 19, hailing from Tarsikka village in Amritsar district, appeared before the court today. Their alleged foreign-based handler, Satnam alias Satta Naushera, also purportedly associated with BKI, remains a key figure in the wider network police are investigating. Authorities had initially sought a seven-day police remand for the trio, arguing the necessity for thorough interrogation to unravel the full extent of the conspiracy, identify any further accomplices, and ascertain the precise targets. However, after careful deliberation, the court granted a five-day remand, with the accused slated to be presented again on August 29. This period will be vital for investigators to gather more evidence and piece together the alleged plot.

The allegations against these individuals are stark and deeply concerning. Police claim the men were apprehended in connection with a sinister plan to plant an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) somewhere in Chandigarh, with the express intent of sowing terror among the populace. The recovery itself speaks volumes about the gravity of the situation: approximately five kilograms of gelatin stick explosives, a single detonator, a power source, and even a remotely operated system – essentially a complete IED kit. On top of that, a pistol, a magazine, and five live cartridges were also seized, suggesting they were prepared for armed confrontation.

The First Information Report (FIR) in this unsettling case has been registered under Sections 4(b) and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act at Police Station 36, reflecting the severe nature of the charges.
