Campus Safety Alert: Police Urgently Seek Suspect in Repeat UMD Library Indecent Exposure Incidents

There's a palpable sense of unease rippling through the University of Maryland campus right now, especially around the venerable McKeldin Library. It’s a place meant for quiet study, collaboration, and learning – you know, the kind of place you go to focus, to study, maybe even just to relax between classes. But recently, that peace has been disrupted by some truly unsettling incidents, prompting a serious call to action from our University of Maryland Police Department.

The UMPD is currently seeking the public's help to identify and locate a man believed to be responsible for not one, but two separate indecent exposure incidents within the library walls. The first of these deeply troubling events took place quite a while ago, on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. Then, months later, another similar incident occurred on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. It’s certainly worrying to think this individual might be a repeat offender, targeting the same location.

During the November incident, witnesses described the suspect as a Black male, likely in his 20s or early 30s, with a medium build and complexion. He was seen wearing a dark long-sleeved shirt, dark pants, and dark shoes, and, rather conspicuously, a dark face mask that day. It's those little details that can really help piece things together, isn't it?

Fast forward to the February incident, and while the general description remained consistent – same age range, same build, same complexion – his attire had changed. This time, he was observed wearing a dark-colored jacket, dark pants, dark shoes, and a white baseball cap. Perhaps he thought changing his look would make him less recognizable, but police are hopeful that someone out there noticed him, either time.

And this is where we, as a community, really come in. The University of Maryland Police Department is making a heartfelt plea for anyone with even the slightest bit of information to step forward. Seriously, if you saw something, heard something, or even just have a gut feeling about who this person might be, your input could be absolutely crucial.
