Bus Overturns in Anugola, Leaving Dozens Injured on NH-149

A journey from the sacred city of Puri to Sundargarh took a distressing turn on Tuesday morning when a passenger bus, carrying over 50 individuals, lost control and overturned on National Highway 149. The sudden incident, occurring near Burukuna Square within the Samal police station limits of Anugola district, has unfortunately left a significant number of people injured, casting a shadow over what was likely meant to be a routine trip.

In the chaotic aftermath, it quickly became apparent that over 25 passengers had sustained injuries of varying degrees. Among them, a worrying six individuals are reported to be in serious condition, a testament to the sheer force of the accident. One can only imagine the shock and terror that must have gripped everyone on board as the vehicle veered off course and ultimately toppled over.

As one might expect in such a dire situation, local emergency services were quick to respond. Fire service personnel, alongside multiple 108 ambulances, rushed to the scene to provide immediate assistance. Their swift action was crucial in stabilizing the situation, helping to extricate the injured and prepare them for medical attention.

The injured were initially transported to the Khamar Community Health Centre for urgent first aid and assessment. However, given the severity of many of the injuries, a number of patients were subsequently referred to the Anugola District Headquarters Hospital for more comprehensive treatment. For those six critically injured passengers, the journey didn't end there; they've since been transferred to specialized medical facilities in the larger cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, where they can receive the intensive care they desperately need. While the immediate focus remains on the care and recovery of the victims, authorities have, of course, begun their investigation into the cause of this tragic accident. Police from the Samal station are meticulously examining the circumstances that led to the bus losing balance, hoping to understand what exactly went wrong and, perhaps, prevent similar incidents in the future. It’s a somber reminder of the unpredictable nature of road travel and the paramount importance of safety.
