Boston Man Charged After Alleged Assault of Child He Drove to School

Former School Driver Arrested in Connection with Child Sex Assault

A Boston man who was hired to transport a child to school has been arrested on charges related to the sexual assault of the same child, according to local authorities.

Boston police announced Tuesday that a 38‑year‑old man, who had been contracted to drive a young student to and from school, is now facing serious criminal charges after allegedly assaulting the child he was supposed to protect.

The suspect, identified only as Michael D., was hired by the family through a private transportation service. According to court documents, the alleged abuse took place over several weeks in late March and early April, while the child was in the back seat of D.'s vehicle.

Detectives say a neighbor, who noticed the child acting withdrawn, reported the situation to authorities. After an intensive investigation—including interviews, a forensic interview with the child and a review of the driver’s background—police obtained an arrest warrant.

On June 12, D. was taken into custody at his downtown apartment. He is now charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of unlawful transportation of a minor. He has been denied bail and remains in the Suffolk County jail awaiting his first court appearance.

The family of the victim, who asked to remain anonymous, expressed a mix of relief and lingering fear. “We never imagined someone we trusted could do this,” the mother said in a statement. “We hope this brings some sense of justice, but our focus will always be on protecting our child.”

Law enforcement officials emphasized that background checks for private drivers are critical, and they are reviewing the policies of the transportation service that employed D. The case remains under investigation, and officials have not ruled out additional charges as new evidence emerges.
