BMW crash claims life of young IT professional in Chandigarh’s Industrial Area

On Monday morning, just as the city was waking up, a tragic collision unfolded near the Kalibari Temple traffic lights in Chandigarh’s Industrial Area‑Phase II. Pratham, a 24‑year‑old IT professional who had just finished a workout, was riding his motorcycle home when a BMW, allegedly driven recklessly, struck him head‑on.

Witnesses say the BMW, later identified as belonging to a man named Avatar of Mohali, careened through the intersection at a dangerous speed. The impact threw Pratham to the ground, and the driver scrambled to help, loading the injured biker onto a passing autorickshaw and rushing him to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32.

Despite the frantic effort, doctors declared Pratham dead on arrival. The loss has hit his family hard; he had recently secured a job with an IT firm in Panchkula and was looking forward to a new chapter in his life.

Police have impounded the BMW but, as of now, the driver has not been taken into custody. A case of rash driving and death by negligence has been lodged at the Sector‑31 police station, and officials say the accused will be arrested shortly.

The incident adds to a string of recent road tragedies in the region, including a separate fatal accident involving a tipper truck in Pinjore that claimed the life of a 53‑year‑old labourer. Both cases highlight growing concerns over reckless driving on the city’s bustling streets.

Authorities are urging anyone with additional information or dash‑cam footage to come forward, hoping to piece together a clearer picture of what went wrong that fateful morning.
