The official stance cites her ongoing conviction in corruption cases; she was, after all, released from jail back in March 2020 under a humanitarian executive order, but with specific conditions. Even the medical board at Evercare Hospital, comprising Bangladesh's own leading specialists, had previously advised that a liver transplant abroad would be the optimal course of action for Zia, especially considering the advanced stage of her liver disease.
