Ayushman Bharat: Seven Years of Transforming Healthcare, A Lifeline for Millions

Seven years ago, a visionary initiative was launched to rewrite India's healthcare narrative for its most vulnerable citizens. Today, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), the flagship component of Ayushman Bharat, stands as a monumental success, a beacon of hope having facilitated over 6.2 crore hospital admissions and processed claims totaling a staggering Rs 82,233 crore.

The impact is profound: it's estimated that beneficiaries have saved a colossal Rs 1.3 lakh crore in potential out-of-pocket expenditures, a sum that would have otherwise pushed countless households deeper into poverty.

The reach of PMJAY is truly remarkable.

With over 28,300 hospitals empanelled across the country – a network that includes both public and private facilities – access to quality healthcare is no longer a distant dream but a tangible reality for those who need it most. This extensive network ensures that specialized medical treatments, from complex surgeries to critical care, are available to every eligible Ayushman Bharat cardholder, irrespective of their socio-economic status.

A significant highlight of PMJAY's journey is its commitment to gender equity.

The scheme has been particularly empowering for women, who often bear the brunt of healthcare neglect in families. To date, more than 12 crore Ayushman cards have been issued to women, leading to over 3.84 crore treatments availed by them.
