Armed robbery suspect captured after an eight‑hour standoff in Northeast Fresno

It all began just before noon on September 16, when Fresno officers answered a frantic call about an armed robbery at the AutoZone on Gettysburg Avenue and First Street. The clerk on duty described a man in his 40s who brandished a gun, snatched a handful of items, and fled the scene.

Within minutes, undercover detectives who were already canvassing the neighborhood spotted the suspect’s vehicle tucked behind a house on Gettysburg. They quickly set up a perimeter, closing the street between First and Fresno streets, and even deployed drones to keep eyes on the unfolding drama.

According to police, the suspect slipped inside the residence with a woman—no one else was reported inside. Negotiators tried to make contact, but the man stayed silent, essentially barricading himself for roughly eight hours.

When talks stalled, SWAT was called in. The tactical team entered the home, and after a tense but orderly operation, they took the suspect into custody without any reported injuries.
