Andhra Pradesh is on edge as its lifeline rivers, the Godavari and Krishna, rage with unprecedented might, their waters surging dangerously close to and, in some cases, exceeding warning levels. A relentless deluge in their upper catchment areas has transformed these usually majestic rivers into a formidable force, triggering a widespread flood alert across several districts and putting state machinery on high alert.

At the Dowleswaram Barrage in Rajahmundry, water levels have swiftly climbed past the first flood warning mark, releasing massive volumes downstream. This alarming rise has put districts like Eluru, East Godavari, Konaseema, and West Godavari on high alert, with authorities closely monitoring the situation and preparing for potential inundation.

Communities residing in low-lying areas along the riverbanks have been advised to exercise extreme caution and be ready for immediate evacuation should the situation escalate.

Simultaneously, the mighty Krishna River is also demonstrating its formidable power. Major reservoirs like Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar are witnessing significant inflows from upstream, necessitating the operation of gates to manage the rising water levels.

Further downstream, the Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada is also experiencing increased discharges, directly impacting districts such as Krishna, NTR, Guntur, and Palnadu. Local administrations are actively assessing vulnerable areas and implementing precautionary measures to mitigate any potential damage.

State disaster management officials have affirmed that all district collectors and emergency response teams are maintaining round-the-clock vigilance.

Contingency plans, including the identification of safe evacuation routes, establishment of relief camps, and prepositioning of essential supplies, are being actively implemented. The focus remains on ensuring the safety of residents and minimizing the impact of the impending floods.
