A Life Well-Lived: Remembering Johnnie Earnest, 79

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Johnnie Earnest, a cherished husband, devoted father, beloved grandfather, and dear friend to many. Johnnie departed this life on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at the age of 79, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and a life well-lived.

Born in the heart of Mississippi on January 13, 1943, Johnnie was a son to the late Willie and LuElla Earnest. From those humble beginnings, he grew into a man known for his unwavering commitment to his family and his steadfast work ethic. He made his home in Lemont, Illinois, having previously resided in Romeoville, enriching both communities with his presence.

Johnnie’s professional journey was marked by diligence and loyalty. He dedicated an impressive thirty years to Reynolds Aluminum, where he eventually retired, leaving a lasting mark on his colleagues and the company. Not one to sit still, he later found joy and purpose in his work at Home Depot in Bolingbrook, serving the community there for another fifteen years. It really speaks volumes about his character, doesn't it? Always contributing, always engaged.

Beyond his working life, Johnnie had a zest for many passions. He found solace and excitement in fishing, a hobby that often took him to serene waters. He possessed a true appreciation for classic cars, perhaps even a favorite he lovingly cared for. Gardening brought him a quiet sense of satisfaction, watching things grow and flourish under his attentive hand. And, like many of us, he absolutely loved to travel, exploring new places and making lasting memories along the way.

His greatest joy, however, was undoubtedly his family. Johnnie leaves behind his beloved wife, Shirley (née Taylor) Earnest, with whom he shared a lifetime of cherished moments and unwavering support. He was a proud and loving father to Pamela, Mark, Kimberly, and Brian. We also remember his dear daughter Michelle, who preceded him in death, now reunited with her father.

The role of grandfather was one he embraced with immense warmth. He delighted in his grandchildren: Brittanie, Alexandria, Joi, Jordan, Jaylen, and Jason. We also remember his grandson Joshua, who sadly preceded him. And the joy continued with his great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Kali, who brought so much light into his later years. Johnnie also leaves behind a close-knit circle of siblings: Frank (Rosie), Minnie (the late Thomas) Allen, David (Brenda), James (the late Delores), Betty (Frank) Hill, Larry, Doris (James) Jones, and Jerry (Denise). He was preceded in death by his brother Willie Jr., reminding us of the enduring bonds of family.

A visitation to honor Johnnie's life will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Anderson Memorial Home, located at 2113 Renwick Blvd. in Plainfield. Funeral services will take place the following day, Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., also at Anderson Memorial Home. Following the service, Johnnie will be laid to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever remain a comforting presence in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
