Tragedy Strikes Nadia: BJP Worker's Death Ignites Political Firestorm in West Bengal

A cloud of sorrow and political tension hangs heavy over West Bengal's Nadia district following the untimely death of Kartick Ghosh, a local BJP worker, who tragically succumbed to injuries allegedly sustained during an altercation. His family and party members are vociferously claiming a politically motivated murder, igniting a fresh blame game between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).

The harrowing incident unfolded on Friday night in the Tehatta area of Nadia.

According to police reports, Kartick Ghosh was involved in a heated argument with Bijoy Ghosh, a driver, over what initially appeared to be a trivial matter: Bijoy's vehicle reportedly blocking a narrow lane. The dispute escalated rapidly, culminating in Bijoy allegedly punching Kartick. The impact caused Kartick to fall, reportedly hitting his head on the ground, leading to severe injuries.

Witnesses rushed the injured Kartick Ghosh to a local hospital.

However, despite medical efforts, his condition deteriorated, and he tragically passed away on Saturday morning, leaving his family and community in profound grief. The immediate aftermath saw his devastated family lodge a formal complaint with the police, explicitly naming Bijoy Ghosh and accusing him of murder.

The family's allegations delve deeper than a mere road rage incident.

They assert that Bijoy Ghosh, whom they describe as being closely associated with local TMC leaders, had a history of threatening Kartick. According to Kartick's grief-stricken relatives, Bijoy had repeatedly intimidated him over his political affiliations, pressuring him to abandon the BJP. "He used to regularly threaten Kartick over his political affiliation and asked him to leave the party.

Bijoy Ghosh is close to TMC leaders. This is nothing but a political murder," a family member stated, their voice heavy with sorrow and accusation.

The BJP has swiftly capitalized on these claims, transforming the individual tragedy into a potent political weapon. State BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya condemned the incident, echoing the family's sentiments and labelling it a clear case of political violence.

"Our worker was brutally murdered by a TMC goon. This is not a criminal incident but a political murder. TMC is destroying democracy in Bengal," Bhattacharya declared, demanding swift justice and a thorough investigation that acknowledges the political dimension.

In response, the Trinamool Congress has vehemently rejected the allegations, attempting to de-politicize the incident.

TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh dismissed the BJP's claims as opportunistic and unfounded. "This is a criminal incident and has nothing to do with politics. We strongly condemn such incidents and will support the police in their investigation. BJP should not try to politicize every incident for their vested interests," Ghosh retorted, maintaining that the law would take its course irrespective of political affiliations.

Following the family's complaint, the police acted promptly, arresting Bijoy Ghosh in connection with Kartick Ghosh's death.

Authorities have stated that an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the tragedy and to verify the claims made by both the family and the political parties involved.
