Stingrays Secure Veteran NHL Defenseman Josh Keeper, Boost Roster with Rookie Patrick Gaul

The South Carolina Stingrays have sent a clear message of intent for the upcoming season, making a significant splash by signing former NHL defenseman Josh Keeper. This strategic move, announced by Stingrays General Manager and Head Coach Dave LeNeveu, brings a wealth of professional experience and leadership to the blue line, promising to fortify the team's defensive core.

Keeper, a seasoned blueliner, boasts an impressive resume that includes 100 games in the National Hockey League, split between the Vancouver Canucks and the Florida Panthers.

His time in the NHL saw him contribute 11 points (two goals, nine assists) and accumulate 99 penalty minutes, showcasing both his defensive prowess and his physical presence. Beyond the NHL, Keeper is no stranger to the ECHL, having played for the Augusta Lynx, Gwinnett Gladiators, and Trenton Titans.

His last stint in the ECHL was during the 2008-09 season with the Augusta Lynx, where he registered 13 points (two goals, 11 assists) in 42 games.

A notable aspect of Keeper's journey is his resilience. After missing the entire previous season due to injury, his return to professional hockey with the Stingrays marks a compelling comeback story.

Gaul, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, spent four impactful seasons at the University of Notre Dame, where he cultivated a reputation for hard work and leadership. During his senior year, he proudly served as an alternate captain, demonstrating his ability to inspire and guide his teammates.

Over his collegiate career, Gaul appeared in 143 games for the Fighting Irish, tallying eight goals and 18 assists for a total of 26 points.

The dual signings of a seasoned NHL veteran like Keeper and a rising collegiate leader like Gaul highlight the Stingrays' commitment to building a balanced and competitive roster.
