Scarborough Rocked by Armed Robbery Spree: Suspect Faces Multiple Charges

A wave of fear swept through Scarborough as a series of armed robberies targeted both innocent pedestrians and local businesses over several weeks. Now, Toronto Police have delivered a significant breakthrough, announcing the arrest and charging of a 28-year-old man believed to be responsible for the harrowing spree.

The alarming pattern of crime began on December 14, 2023, and continued through January 11, 2024.

Victims, often confronted at gunpoint or with a knife, were forced to hand over their valuables, including cash, cellphones, and jewelry. The incidents spanned various locations across Scarborough, leaving residents and retailers on edge.

Their persistent efforts culminated in the identification of a suspect. On Tuesday, January 16, authorities successfully apprehended Brandon Lewis, 28, of Toronto.

Lewis now faces a formidable list of charges reflecting the gravity and scale of his alleged actions. These include eight counts of Robbery with a Firearm, two counts of Robbery with a Weapon, and an additional count of Robbery.

Furthermore, he has been charged with nine counts of Disguise with Intent, indicating a calculated effort to conceal his identity during the commission of the crimes.

The suspect also faces charges of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, specifically for cash and a cellphone, and four counts of Theft Under $5,000.

Police confirmed that Lewis appeared in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 1000 Finch Avenue West, on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. The arrest brings a much-needed sense of relief to the Scarborough community, signaling an end to the string of menacing incidents.
