Punjab's Heartfelt Gesture: Governor Flags Off Massive Aid for Flood-Stricken States

In a powerful display of solidarity and humanitarian spirit, Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Sunday officially launched a major relief operation, flagging off 10 truckloads of crucial supplies destined for the flood-devastated regions of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

The benevolent initiative, meticulously organized by the Chandigarh unit of Sewa Bharti, saw a convoy laden with essentials depart from the city, carrying a beacon of hope for thousands grappling with the aftermath of recent torrential rains and flash floods.

Governor Purohit, a strong advocate for community welfare, personally oversaw the dispatch, emphasizing the collective responsibility to support those in distress.

The extensive consignment is a comprehensive package designed to meet immediate and pressing needs. It includes dry ration to ensure food security, warm blankets for comfort in cooler climes, hygiene kits to prevent disease, and vital medicines.

Furthermore, the trucks carried solar lanterns, offering light where power grids have failed, sleeping mats for temporary shelter, bottled water for safe hydration, and first-aid kits for emergency medical attention. Demonstrating an even deeper commitment, the relief convoy was accompanied by a dedicated doctor and a para-medical staff member, ready to provide essential medical services on the ground.

Lalit Kumar Mahajan, the state president of Sewa Bharti, highlighted the organization's relentless commitment to disaster relief.

He detailed how Sewa Bharti has been at the forefront of aid efforts not only for the neighbouring states but also extensively within Punjab’s own flood-affected districts. Their commendable work has reached areas such as Patiala, Sangrur, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fazilka, and Ferozepur, underscoring their widespread impact and dedication to selfless service.

Governor Purohit lauded Sewa Bharti’s unwavering efforts, recognizing their pivotal role in embodying the true spirit of service to humanity.

“Natural calamities, while devastating, often bring out the best in us. They remind us of our shared humanity and the incredible resilience of the human spirit,” he remarked. He stressed the profound importance of reaching out and supporting fellow citizens during such challenging times, reinforcing the message that no one should face such adversity alone.

The flagging-off ceremony was graced by the presence of several dignitaries, including Chandigarh Mayor Anup Gupta and Sewa Bharti general secretary Kesar Singh, among others.
