Pizza Delivery Gone Wrong: Battlefords RCMP Seize Meth Hidden in Food Box

You know, it’s always fascinating, and frankly, a bit unsettling, how far some individuals will go to conceal illicit drugs. Take, for instance, a recent incident right here in Saskatchewan, specifically in the Battlefords area, where local RCMP officers made quite the discovery – methamphetamine tucked away in, of all things, a pizza box. It sounds like something straight out of a crime novel, doesn't it?

This all unfolded on a quiet Sunday evening, June 23rd, when members of the Battlefords RCMP Gang Task Force, working diligently alongside the Provincial General Investigation Section and the Saskatoon Police Service's Guns and Gangs Unit, conducted a routine traffic stop. But what started as seemingly routine quickly escalated. During their investigation, officers located a substantial quantity of what they suspected to be methamphetamine. And yes, you guessed it, the drugs were cleverly hidden inside a pizza box, a seemingly innocent container turned into a clandestine transport device.

The total haul was significant, indeed. Police seized approximately 280 grams of suspected meth, a quantity that, let's be honest, would have caused considerable harm if it had made its way onto our streets. Beyond the drugs, officers also confiscated a sum of cash and several cell phones, items often associated with drug trafficking operations, offering a glimpse into the broader scope of such activities.

Following the discovery, two individuals were promptly arrested. Cody Dillon Flamont, 33, and Kelsey Nicole Katchay, 29, now face serious charges. Both are accused of possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine, a charge that carries significant weight, and possession of proceeds of crime. It's a stark reminder of the continuous battle law enforcement wages against the drug trade in our communities.

Flamont, in particular, finds himself facing additional legal woes. He's also been charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose – a knife, in this instance – and for failing to comply with a release order. These extra charges paint a picture of an individual already entangled with the legal system, further complicating his situation.

Both Flamont and Katchay were slated to make their initial appearances in North Battleford Provincial Court on Tuesday, June 25th.
