Odisha's Lifeline Stumbles: Landslide Blocks NH-520 Amidst Heavy Rains in Kendujhar

A potent cocktail of heavy rainfall, fueled by a low-pressure system churning menacingly in the Bay of Bengal. This deluge sent a cascade of soil and rocks tumbling down, engulfing nearly half of one side of the carriageway. What was once a dual-lane stretch became a perilous single-lane crawl, forcing everyone to exercise extreme caution and patience.

The impact of this natural roadblock is far-reaching. This particular stretch of NH-520 is a veritable lifeline, especially for the heavy iron-laden trucks and passenger buses plying between Badabil and Raurkela in Sundargarh district. Moreover, it's a vital artery for the transportation of precious stone quarried from mines in Koida and Badabil. Suddenly, the flow of goods and people that typically keeps the region humming was severely hampered. Thankfully, despite the chaotic scene, initial reports indicate no casualties or significant damage to vehicles, which is certainly a small relief amidst the larger inconvenience.
