Nightmare Unleashed: Texas Duo Charged in Brutal Minnesota Home Invasion Targeting Affluent Family

A terrifying chapter unfolded in the serene Minneapolis suburb of Orono, as two men from Texas now stand accused of orchestrating a brutal home invasion and robbery that left a family traumatized and significantly poorer. Troy Anthony Peterson, 36, and David Earl Hardy, 33, both hailing from Houston, Texas, have been charged in Hennepin County with first-degree aggravated robbery and first-degree burglary.

The charges stem from an incident on February 15, 2024, that shattered the peace of a family's affluent residence.

According to the criminal complaints, the nightmare began when a family member arrived home to find their spouse and child already bound. The victims recounted a harrowing ordeal: at least two intruders, armed and disguised, had forced their way into the home.

They were methodically tied up, their sense of security violently stripped away, while the perpetrators ransacked their residence, specifically targeting high-value possessions. The brazen thieves made off with an estimated $750,000 worth of luxury items, a haul that included designer handbags, a substantial amount of cash, and a collection of exquisite luxury watches that alone were valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The swift and diligent response from law enforcement quickly set the wheels of justice in motion.

Police were able to leverage crucial pieces of evidence left behind by the perpetrators. A pivotal breakthrough came from cell phone data, which indicated that phones associated with the suspects had been in the vicinity of the Orono home at the time of the robbery. Further investigation revealed a meticulous pattern: the suspects allegedly rented a vehicle, a black GMC Yukon, from the Houston area, which was then tracked on its journey to and from Minnesota during the period surrounding the crime.

Investigators, working tirelessly, cross-referenced the cell phone data with vehicle registration information, eventually linking the distinct travel patterns and timing to Peterson and Hardy.

This painstaking detective work led authorities to identify the two men as the prime suspects in the shocking robbery. Warrants for their arrest were subsequently issued, initiating a multi-state effort to apprehend them.
