Major Drug and Firearm Bust Rocks Chatham: Over $21,000 in Narcotics and Loaded Sawed-Off Shotgun Seized

In a significant operation that undoubtedly makes the streets of Chatham a little safer, Chatham-Kent Police have announced a major drug and firearm seizure. This past week, officers from the Chatham-Kent Police Intelligence Section executed a search warrant on a residence located on Princess Street in Chatham, leading to the discovery of a substantial cache of illicit items.

It seems the long arm of the law was certainly busy, as the raid uncovered a significant quantity of suspected narcotics. We're talking about suspected fentanyl, crack cocaine, and crystal methamphetamine, all of which carry a hefty street value. Police estimate the combined worth of these drugs alone to be around $21,600. Just imagine the potential harm that much illicit substance could have inflicted on our community.

But the story doesn't end with drugs. What truly elevates the seriousness of this particular seizure is the discovery of a loaded sawed-off shotgun. A prohibited firearm, made even more dangerous by being loaded and easily concealed, represents a direct threat to public safety. It’s a stark reminder of the dangerous elements law enforcement often face when tackling organized crime and drug trafficking.

Beyond the primary haul, investigators also found various types of ammunition, a digital scale often used for precise drug measurement, packaging materials suggesting an active distribution operation, and approximately $1,500 in Canadian currency. As a result of this thorough investigation and subsequent raid, two individuals have been taken into custody. A 38-year-old male and a 26-year-old female, both from Chatham, are now facing a slew of serious charges. These include possession for the purpose of trafficking for fentanyl, crack cocaine, and methamphetamine, as well as multiple firearm-related offenses like possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, careless storage of a firearm, and possession of a prohibited device (the sawed-off shotgun), not to mention possession of ammunition.
