Kolkata, the City of Joy, is bracing itself for a significant shift in weather patterns as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issues a comprehensive alert for heavy rainfall and intense thunderstorms. Residents across the metropolis and several South Bengal districts are advised to prepare for several days of inclement weather, with an 'Orange Alert' signaling the potential for considerable disruption.

The IMD's forecast indicates that Kolkata, along with its neighboring districts including Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, Purulia, Bankura, and East and West Burdwan, will experience a deluge of rain coupled with powerful thunderstorms.

This weather phenomenon is expected to sweep across the region, bringing with it not just heavy downpours but also the risk of lightning strikes and strong gusty winds that could impact daily life and outdoor activities.

Authorities have urged the public to exercise extreme caution, particularly during peak thunderstorm periods.

Special warnings have also been issued for the fishing community.

Fishermen are strictly advised not to venture into the sea during this period due to the turbulent conditions, strong currents, and high winds that could pose a serious threat to life and vessel.
