Bhavin Raval, hailing from Ahmedabad, and Sushmita Bhattacharya from Kolkata, are among hundreds now reported missing following devastating flash floods that have swept through Nepal, turning a spiritual quest into an unfolding tragedy.

Bhavin Raval, who had traveled all the way from Australia for this momentous yatra, vanished after completing his Nepal immigration formalities on August 26, 2026, and heading towards the Tibet border. His elder brother, Dhaval Raval, recalls their last conversation that evening, between 6:30 and 7:00 PM Kathmandu time. Then, silence. Contact was lost early the next morning, between 7:30 and 8:00 AM. Bhavin was part of a larger group of 26, organized by 'Kailash Journey', traveling with two friends. His distraught wife, back in Australia, has already alerted immigration authorities there, desperately hoping for news.

Meanwhile, another family's world has been thrown into turmoil. Sushmita Bhattacharya, a Kolkata resident, has been missing for approximately 24 hours as of August 27, 2026. Her son, Sunit Bhattacharya, last spoke to his mother on August 23rd. The travel agency informed Sunit that his mother's group had departed their hotel for the Tibet border early that fateful morning, around 6:30 AM, just as the rains intensified and rivers began to swell.

The scale of the disaster in Nepal is truly grim. The Bhotekoshi River, swollen by relentless downpours, has unleashed its fury, causing widespread flash floods. According to Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, a staggering 258 lives have been claimed, and a chilling 910 people are reported missing or out of contact. What's particularly alarming for families across the globe is that a significant portion of the missing, 517 individuals, are foreign nationals, many likely pilgrims caught in the sudden onslaught.
