Jharkhand's Relentless Drive Against Maoist Insurgency: 266 Arrests, 32 Neutralized, 30 Surrender by September End

In a powerful and relentless offensive against left-wing extremism, Jharkhand's security forces have achieved significant breakthroughs, marking a decisive shift in the battle against Maoist insurgency. By the end of September this year, a staggering 266 Maoists were apprehended, 32 were neutralized in intense encounters, and another 30 chose to lay down their arms, embracing the path of surrender.

These figures underscore the unwavering commitment of the Jharkhand police and central paramilitary forces to root out extremism and restore lasting peace in the region.

The comprehensive operations, driven by strategic intelligence and tactical prowess, have not been without sacrifice. While the Maoist ranks have been severely depleted, the security forces also bore losses, with four personnel making the supreme sacrifice and 12 sustaining injuries in the line of duty.

These valiant efforts, however, have significantly crippled the operational capabilities of various Maoist factions, including the CPI (Maoist) and the People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI).

Key to these successes were meticulously planned and executed operations such as "Operation Double Bull" and "Operation Octopus," which specifically targeted the formidable Budha Pahar region, historically a stronghold of Maoist activity.

The liberation of Budha Pahar, a remote area spanning the borders of Latehar and Garhwa districts, stands as a monumental achievement, dismantling decades of Maoist control and opening the path for development and governance. Similar strategic assaults like "Operation Monsoon" further squeezed the insurgents, pushing them to the brink.

The geographical sweep of these anti-Maoist drives has been extensive, covering critical areas from the dense forests of Saranda and Parasnath to the challenging terrains of Kumandi, Chatra, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, Ranchi, Khunti, Simdega, West Singhbhum, and Giridih.

These concerted efforts have led to the recovery of substantial caches of arms, ammunition, and dangerous improvised explosive devices (IEDs), further disrupting the insurgents' supply lines and combat readiness. The police have also highlighted a significant reduction in violent incidents, signaling the growing effectiveness of their strategy.

Beyond direct confrontation, the Jharkhand government's surrender and rehabilitation policy has proven to be an instrumental tool in weakening the insurgency from within.

The 30 Maoists who surrendered this year are a testament to this policy's success, offering disillusioned cadres a chance to reintegrate into mainstream society and lead normal lives. This humane approach, combined with robust security operations, creates a powerful incentive for others to abandon violence and choose peace.

ADG (Operations) AV Homkar emphasized the ongoing nature of these operations, reiterating the police's resolve to continue their efforts until Jharkhand is completely free from the clutches of left-wing extremism.
