Fatal Frenzy: Speeding Car Devastates Faridabad Market, Claims Elderly Vendor's Life

A wave of shock and sorrow has swept through Faridabad following a devastating incident where a speeding car veered off course, crashing violently into a bustling market stall and claiming the life of an elderly vegetable vendor. The tragic event, which unfolded near Tikona Park in the NIT-2 area, has once again brought the critical issue of road safety into sharp focus within the city.

The victim, identified as 70-year-old Ram Avatar, was diligently tending to his vegetable shop when his life was abruptly cut short.

Around 5:30 PM, a Hyundai Verna, allegedly driven at excessive speed by 22-year-old engineering student Himanshu, lost control and ploughed directly into Avatar's stall. The impact was so severe that it not only fatally injured the elderly vendor but also left his livelihood in ruins.

Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos and horror as the car, a silver sedan, tore through the roadside, leaving a trail of destruction.

The sheer force of the collision immediately drew a crowd of distressed onlookers and fellow vendors. Ram Avatar was rushed to a nearby hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life, but medical professionals tragically pronounced him dead upon arrival, succumbing to his grievous injuries.

In addition to the fatal blow to Ram Avatar, the out-of-control vehicle also struck another individual, a 30-year-old man, who fortunately sustained only minor injuries and received immediate medical attention.

The vegetable shop itself, a source of income and daily routine for Ram Avatar, was extensively damaged, its contents scattered amidst the debris of the accident.

Authorities were swiftly alerted to the incident. Police, after investigating the scene and gathering testimonies, registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the driver, Himanshu, under IPC sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence).

Himanshu was subsequently arrested; however, he was later released on bail, a development that often sparks debate regarding the severity of such offences.

This heartbreaking accident serves as a stark reminder of the perils posed by reckless driving and inadequate road safety measures. Residents and community leaders are now renewing their calls for more stringent enforcement of traffic laws and increased awareness campaigns to prevent such senseless loss of life on Faridabad's roads.

The tragic demise of Ram Avatar leaves behind a grieving family and a community demanding answers and tangible action to ensure the safety of its citizens, especially those who earn their living on the city's thoroughfares.
