Delhi Gets a Break: Light Rain Expected Amid Sweltering Heat

Delhiites have finally earned a tiny breather. After a stretch of blistering heat and muggy air, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has hinted that a light drizzle could make its way across the capital region today.

At the Safdarjung weather station, Saturday’s high peaked at 38.2°C – about three degrees above the seasonal norm, yet marginally cooler than the previous day. The night temperature dipped to 30.2°C, still warm by any standard but a shade lower than Friday’s low.

Early this morning the humidity was hovering around 76 %, and the chance of rain was a modest 6 %. Winds were meek, barely nudging the air at about 5 km/h. As the day rolls on, the IMD says the odds of a shower climb to roughly 25 % by mid‑afternoon, while humidity sticks close to 65 %.

Temperatures are expected to ease a bit too. The minimum should linger near 28 °C, and the maximum is likely to stay around 33 °C – a noticeable dip from yesterday’s peaks, though still well above what’s considered comfortable.

Other stations echo the trend. Palam recorded a low of 28.8 °C, down 0.3 °C from Friday, while Lodhi Road saw its minimum slip to 29.2 °C, a 0.9 °C fall. Ayanagar’s reading was 29.4 °C.

The IMD has kept a Yellow Alert in place for Sunday, warning of light rain, possible thunderstorms, and the continuation of humid conditions across Delhi‑NCR. Residents are advised to stay prepared for sudden showers and to keep cool wherever possible.

So, while the rain won’t be a full‑blown downpour, it may just be enough to knock the heat down a notch and give the city a momentary sigh of relief.
