Deadly Fire in Kuwait's Mangaf District Kills Dozens, Indians Among Victims

A horrifying fire ravaged through a building in Kuwait's Mangaf district, claiming the lives of at least 41 individuals, with reports indicating that several Indians were among the victims. The fire, which reportedly originated in a kitchen on a lower floor, rapidly spread throughout the building, trapping numerous occupants inside.

According to Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister, the death toll from the incident stands at 41, as reported by Reuters. Among the casualties were five individuals from Kerala, as per Onmanorama. The building, reportedly accommodating approximately 195 laborers, housed workers primarily from Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It is owned by the NBTC group, under the proprietorship of Malayali businessman KG Abraham, as per Onmanorama.

Following the tragic incident, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait swiftly established an emergency helpline (965-65505246) for updates and assistance. Expressing shock over the incident, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar confirmed that the Indian ambassador has been dispatched to the camp to assess the situation and provide support to affected individuals.

KUNA, the Kuwaiti news agency, reported that the fire has been brought under control, with authorities initiating investigations into its cause. Senior police officials highlighted the challenges faced in the rescue operation due to the dense smoke, which led to numerous fatalities among the workers residing in the building.

In response to the tragedy, Jaishankar conveyed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wished for the speedy recovery of those injured. He assured that the Indian Embassy would extend its fullest support to all affected individuals.
