Coronado Islanders: Ready to Reclaim Glory on the Gridiron!

After a challenging campaign last year, the Coronado Islanders football team is bursting with renewed optimism and a tangible sense of momentum heading into the new season. Under the steadfast leadership of Head Coach Kurt Gunther, now in his fifth year at the helm, the Islanders are not just hoping for a better season – they're building one, brick by brick, with an invigorated roster and a clear vision for success.

Last year's 1-9 record was undeniably tough, largely attributed to a significant lack of senior players and overall numbers.

However, that adversity appears to have forged a stronger, more determined squad. Coach Gunther proudly points to a substantial increase in participation, with over 50 players now combining varsity and junior varsity, a stark contrast to the leaner years. Crucially, the senior class has swelled to 10-12 dedicated athletes, bringing much-needed experience and leadership to the field.

The Islanders' resurgence is spearheaded by a core group of talented returners who have been working tirelessly in the offseason.

Leading the charge is the versatile Alex Duke, a formidable presence on both offense as a tight end and defense as a defensive end. Quarterback Sean Panian will be vital in orchestrating the offense, while running back and linebacker Tyler Foote promises to be a force on both sides of the ball. The trenches will be anchored by Elias Luu, a key figure on the offensive and defensive lines, and the secondary will benefit from the agility and awareness of wide receiver and defensive back Ryan Cline.
