Chris Evans Shows Off Long‑Awaited Avengers Tattoo Ahead of ‘Avengers Doomsday’

It’s not every day you get a peek at a celebrity’s private ink, especially when that ink is a salute to a franchise that helped define a generation. In early August, tattoo artist Josh Lord posted a short video on Instagram that finally gave us a close‑up of Chris Evans’ Avengers tattoo, the one he shares with his original teammates.

The footage shows the 45‑year‑old star lifting his shirt just enough to reveal a piece of art that’s been hidden under his vest for years. The design is simple yet loaded with meaning: an "A" for Avengers, the number six to mark the six core members, and tiny symbols representing each hero—Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor, The Incredible Hulk and Hawkeye.

Back in 2018, Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo all got matching tattoos to celebrate the release of Avengers: Infinity War. Ruffalo famously opted out, but the rest of the crew went ahead with the ink. Fast‑forward to today, and Lord’s post is the first time fans have actually seen Evans’ portion up close.

“Just a tip of the hat to one of my favorite people before Avengers Doomsday comes out!” Lord captioned the clip. “This guy has been there for me during hard times and I’m always honored to be his friend and tattooer.” The sentiment feels genuine, a little behind‑the‑scenes look at a friendship that’s as much about art as it is about movies.

While Evans has a few other tattoos—most notably a large eagle spanning his chest—he’s kept most of them private. Lord even blurred part of the image, noting that the star chose to let this particular piece see the light of day. “(Still keeping his other tattoos private by request but this blurry one of him was his own choice to release..),” he wrote.

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are already buzzing, because the tattoo drops just as the actor is set to return as Steve Rogers in the upcoming Avengers Doomsday, slated for Dec. 18. The buzz isn’t just about the ink; it’s also a reminder that the original Avenger squad is reuniting—this time with a twist, as Robert Downey Jr. steps back into the Marvel fold as the villainous Doctor Doom.

When asked how he knew the timing was right, Evans told Entertainment Weekly at Comic‑Con that a phone call about Downey’s rumored return got him thinking. “All of a sudden it felt right,” he said. “Joe Russo gave me the pitch, and Downey was back. It was like, ‘This is it.’”

So, while the tattoo itself is a modest design, its debut feels like a quiet celebration of the bonds forged on set, the years that have passed, and the excitement of a new chapter in the Marvel saga.
