Celebrating a Life of Dedication: Remembering Willie M. Limehouse Jr.

Charleston bids a sorrowful farewell to a true pillar of its community, Willie M. Limehouse Jr., who peacefully departed this life on Friday, May 19, 2023. Born on November 22, 1947, to the late Willie M. Limehouse Sr. and Louise Limehouse, Willie's journey was one marked by unwavering dedication, profound love, and a spirit of service that touched countless lives.

A proud graduate of St.

James High School, Class of 1965, Willie carried the values instilled in him throughout his remarkable career. For many years, he served as a dedicated longshoreman for the South Carolina Ports Authority, contributing tirelessly to the vibrant heartbeat of Charleston's maritime industry. His commitment extended beyond his work, as he was a proud member of I.L.A.

Local 1422, embodying the strength and solidarity of his fellow workers.

Willie's greatest joy, however, was found within the embrace of his beloved family. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Betty Limehouse, who stood by his side through every chapter. His legacy shines brightly through his children, Willie M.

Limehouse III and Jennifer Limehouse, and his cherished grandchildren, Willie M. Limehouse IV and Jazmine E. Limehouse, who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

His deep faith was a cornerstone of his life, evident in his steadfast membership at Greater St. James A.M.E. Church. Willie served diligently as a Trustee, lending his voice to the Men’s Choir, and ensuring all felt welcomed as a member of the Usher Board.

His presence was a comforting constant, his dedication an inspiration to all who worshipped alongside him.

Willie was a beloved brother to Deacon James Limehouse, John Limehouse, David Limehouse, and Louise White, and leaves behind a wide circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will profoundly miss his wisdom, warmth, and enduring spirit.

He now reunites with his parents and his siblings who preceded him in death: Frank, Moses, Herbert, Samuel, and Alice Limehouse.

As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life richly lived—a life of purpose, love, and unwavering commitment to his community and kin. Willie M. Limehouse Jr.’s memory will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

James A.M.E. Church. A Homegoing Service will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Greater St. James A.M.E. Church, located at 8219 Folly Road, Charleston, SC. The interment will follow in the church cemetery. Professional services are being handled by The Low Country Mortuary.
