Archana Puran Singh Opens Up About a Decade‑Long Wait for Substantive Film Roles

When you see Archana Puran Singh cracking jokes on The Kapil Sharma Show, it’s easy to assume she’s perpetually busy. The reality, however, is a bit messier. In a candid chat with News18, the seasoned actress opened up about a ten‑year stretch where the only offers she got were for brand endorsements, not the kind of acting parts she’s been yearning for.

“After ‘Bol Bachchan’ became a hit, everyone told me I’d be swamped with films,” Archana chuckles, recalling the flood of predictions. “I even joked I’d call the producers the moment the first offer landed.” Ten years later, the phone never rang.

She says the perception that she was “too busy” with television work played a huge part. The Kapil Sharma Show, while cementing her status as a household name, also gave filmmakers the impression that she couldn’t fit a 15‑day shoot into her schedule. “There were days I literally couldn’t leave the set,” she explains, “even if I wanted to hop on a plane.”

It wasn’t just timing. Archana admits that many in the industry now see her primarily as a comic‑relief personality, someone who sits on a chair and delivers punchlines. “Nobody believes I’m an actor anymore. They think I’m just the funny lady on TV,” she sighs.

Despite the setbacks, she recently turned down a film because the role didn’t sit right with her. “I refused a script a few days ago, not because I’m scared, but because I didn’t like the part. Good roles just aren’t coming my way yet,” she says, emphasizing her desire to act, not just appear.

There is, however, a glimmer of hope. Archana is set to return to scripted storytelling with the upcoming web series Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya. She describes the project as a fresh canvas where audiences can glimpse a different facet of her talent. “Maybe this will change the ‘only‑comedian’ tag people stick on me,” she adds with a smile.

For now, Archana remains patient but firm. “I want filmmakers to notice that I’m still here, eager to explore more layered characters,” she concludes, leaving the door open for the kind of work she’s been waiting for all these years.
