A Terrifying Turn: The Realities of Reckless Driving in Mohali

It was just a typical Thursday evening, you know, when a casual ride can suddenly morph into something far more sinister. For 24-year-old Karanpreet Singh and his aunt, Manpreet Kaur, aged 40, that evening took a terrifying turn. They were simply making their way near the Phase 11 light point in Mohali when, out of nowhere, an SUV, brazenly driving on the wrong side of the road, slammed into their bike. Can you imagine the shock?

Both Karanpreet, a resident of Sunny Enclave, Sector 125, Mohali, and his aunt Manpreet were, understandably, in a state of shock and considerable pain after the collision. They were quickly rushed to the Phase 6 civil hospital for urgent medical attention – a distressing end to what should have been a peaceful journey from Phase 11 towards Phase 6 on Karanpreet’s Splendor bike.

What makes this even more frustrating, perhaps even infuriating, is that the driver of that SUV didn't stop. After causing such a serious accident, this individual, whose identity remains unknown, simply sped away from the scene, leaving Karanpreet and Manpreet lying there, hurt and vulnerable. It's truly unsettling to think someone could be so callous.

Of course, the local authorities at the Phase 11 police station are now involved, and a case has been promptly registered. They’re investigating under sections 279 (for rash driving) and 337 (for causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code – you know, the serious stuff. The hunt is well and truly on for the driver of that SUV; police are diligently reviewing CCTV footage, piecing together what happened, and hopefully, it won’t be long before justice starts to roll for Karanpreet and Manpreet.

This incident, sadly, serves as yet another stark reminder of the unpredictable dangers lurking on our roads, especially when negligence and disregard for traffic rules take over. Our thoughts are with Karanpreet and Manpreet for a swift and full recovery.
