Your Vote, Your Time: McHenry County's Early Voting Starts Soon!

Can you believe the general election is almost upon us? It feels like just yesterday we were talking about primary season, but here we are, staring down November 3rd, 2026. For folks in McHenry County, the good news is you don't have to wait until Election Day itself to make your voice heard. Early voting is kicking off sooner than you might think, offering plenty of chances to cast your ballot at your own pace.

If you're eager to be among the first, mark your calendars! The Election Center, nestled at 410 S. Eastwood Drive in Woodstock, becomes your go-to spot for early voting starting Thursday, September 24th. Initially, they'll be open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. – a pretty standard schedule, really. But heads up, they'll be taking a little break and closing on Monday, October 12th. Plan accordingly!

Now, as we get closer to the big day, things really ramp up! From Monday, October 26th, through Friday, October 30th, the Election Center in Woodstock extends its weekday hours, staying open until 7 p.m. – perfect for those who work a traditional nine-to-five. And speaking of ramping up, the county truly expands its reach on Monday, October 19th, when a whole host of additional early voting sites open their doors across McHenry County. This is fantastic news, making it so much easier for everyone to find a convenient location.

You'll find these new sites at familiar community hubs: Lake in the Hills Village Hall, Algonquin Township Garage in Crystal Lake, McHenry City Hall, Crystal Lake Public Library, Nunda Township Office, McHenry Township Office, Huntley Park District, Algonquin Library, Cary Park District, Dunham Township Office in Harvard, and Marengo City Hall. Quite a list, right? They've really tried to cover the county!

And if weekdays just don't work, don't fret! Many of these primary and additional locations will even offer weekend hours. Specifically, Saturday, October 31st, will see various sites open, and on Sunday, November 1st, the main early voting centers will be ready to welcome you. It’s all about flexibility, giving everyone a chance to participate.

For those who chose the vote-by-mail route, McHenry County hasn't forgotten about you! There's a super convenient 24/7 ballot drop box located outside the county building at 667 Ware Road in Woodstock. Plus, many of the early voting locations will have secure drop boxes inside their voting rooms, so you can easily drop off your completed ballot while you're out and about. Easy peasy.

One crucial bit of information for our vote-by-mail folks: if you've requested a ballot through the mail but then decide you'd rather vote in person, no problem at all! Just bring your mail-in ballot with you to the early voting site. You'll simply surrender it there, and they'll help you cast your vote right then and there. It's a straightforward process, designed to ensure everyone's vote counts, no matter how they initially planned to cast it.
