Last year, Remedy Entertainment revealed its updated logo, as the company wanted to redefine its "visual identity." However, it looks like it gained some unwanted attention from Take Two Interactive, which has filed a trademark dispute against the Alan Wake 2 developer. As reported by Respawnfirst , Take Two Interactive's reason behind the dispute is due to “Article 8(1)(b) EUTMR – There exists a likelihood of confusion on the part of the public." It seems that Remedy's new logo is a little too similar to Rockstar's famous stylized R, as two trademark oppositions — UK00003910498 and UK00003910520 — were filed with the Intellectual Property Office in May 2023, both of which are still being investigated.
Last year, Take Two Interactive locked horns with Hazelight Studios over its co op puzzle game, It Takes Two. Remedy is currently working on Max Payne 1 + 2 remakes, which are funded by Rockstar, which is awkward. While we're sure both companies are professional enough not to let a disagreement like this get in the way, we hope it doesn't affect the development process.
The remakes were announced back in 2022 and a development update last October revealed that they're now in the "production readiness" stage. After more than 20 years of creating games, Remedy Entertainment revealed its redesigned logo in April 2023 , as the original logo featured a bullet hole in the R to represent Max Payne.
With the studio's growing catalog of titles, it wanted its new logo to reflect its evolution in game design. "The bullet in the letter R in the old logo represented the era of Max Payne, but the Remedy of now is much bigger than a single game; we have a whole portfolio of games, new and old," Remedy said.
"It was time to update and redefine our visual identity to bring more consistency, showcase our evolution over the years, and better express our vision of today’s Remedy. "The Remedy logo means a lot to us, but we know it also means a lot to you. Like the games we create at Remedy, we approached this process with great care, consideration, and a lot of passion! "We want to create memorable worlds, stories, and characters for you to experience through our games.
We wanted our new logo to reflect how we constantly evolve and continue creating exciting games with the very best people. However, it’s all still one Remedy where courageous creativity thrives. We hope you like the new look." Remedy Entertainment's Alan Wake 2 was a psychological horror hit when it launched on Xbox Series X|S last year.
We love it, so much so that we added it to our list of the best Xbox games ..
