Listen to Story ICC's No. 1 ranked T20I batter and bowler, Suryakumar Yadav and Rashid Khan engaged in a heart warming interaction on Instagram ahead of India's T20I series against Afghanistan. After a gruelling away tour to South Africa, the Indian team is set to host the Afghanistan team for a 3 match T20I series, starting January 11.
The first match will be played at the IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. The Afghanistan team are practising hard in the nets to make an impact and challenge the hosts India. Rashid shared a video of him bowling and batting in the nets on Instagram. Rashid captioned the post, "I've missed you".
Suryakumar commented on the post and wrote, "And I will miss you". To which, Rashid replied, "I am coming to meet you." This light hearted conversation on social media adds to the camaraderie and respect the players of two nations share. Rashid is the Afghanistan team's regular T20I skipper.
However, in the shortest format this time and instead of him, 22 year old Ibrahim Zadran will be captaining Afghanistan. Rashid is part of the 19 member squad, but it remains uncertain if he will be taking part in the matches. The reason is his lower back surgery, due to which the star player also missed the T20I series against UAE.
Zadran led the team in the regular skipper's absence and will continue to lead against India as well. "Rashid Khan, Afghanistan's regular T20I Captain, has been included in the squad but might not feature in any game as he recovers from the back surgery he recently underwent. Meanwhile, Ibrahim Zadran, who led Afghanistan to a 2 1 series victory against the UAE in Sharjah, will continue to lead Afghanistan against India as well," ACB had written in its press release ahead of the T20I series.
Meanwhile, Suryakumar, who led India to a 4 1 victory against Australia at home, followed by levelling the T20I series 1 1 in South Africa, for the series. The 31 year old suffered an ankle injury while fielding during the 3rd T20I against South Africa. The same match in which he smashed a century to help India win the match.
He was unavailable for selection for the T20I series. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma returned to captaining India after a 14 month hiatus, along with Virat Kohli who is part of India's 16 man squad for the series..
