Listen to Story Pakistan are set to play a 5 match T20I series against New Zealand. This is the first time that Pakistan will play under the leadership of Shaheen Shah Afridi, who was handed the reins after Babar Azam stepped down. Azam left captaincy in all formats of the game after Pakistan's poor showing in the ODI World Cup 2023, where the team failed to make the semi finals.
Pakistan team organised their first training session ahead of the team's opener on 12 January. Fast bowler Haris Rauf returned to training on for the first time after his Big Basg League stint. The bowler had skipped the Test series against Australia and has returned back to the squad to prepare for the T20 World Cup.
Pakistan had a horrible time trying to catch the ball in the 3 match Test series against Australia and understandably, there was focus on catching the ball in Auckland. Zaman Khan impressed in the BBL once again, . Zaman bowled out Maxwell with one of his yorkers, which became one of the moments of the match between Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars. Pakistan will hope to do better under the new leadership of Shaheen Shah Afridi. Mohammed Rizwan has been named as Pakistan's vice captain in the T20I format.
