“I think there was a lot of build up to the game so to come through with a win and a clean sheet is great. “It has been a long time since we’ve played this type of game. If you had asked the fans whether they would rather advance in the Champions League or beat Sunderland, I think they would pick beating Sunderland.
It was a great day and the crowd really made it special.” 33m ago 09.47 EST Today's third round fixtures AFC Wimbledon 1 3 Ipswich Town (R) Coventry City 6 2 Oxford United (R) Maidstone United 1 0 Stevenage (R) Millwall 2 3 Leicester City (R) Sunderland 0 3 Newcastle United (R) Blackburn Rovers vCambridge United (3pm GMT) Gillingham v Sheffield United Hull City v Birmingham City Newport County v Eastleigh Norwich City v Bristol Rovers Plymouth Argyle v Sutton United Queens Park Rangers v Bournemouth Southampton v Walsall Stoke City v Brighton Watford v Chesterfield Chelsea v Preston (5.30pm GMT) Middlesbrough v Aston Villa (5.30pm) Sheffield Wednesday v Cardiff City (5.30pm) Swansea City v Morecambe (5.30pm) Updated at 09.54 EST 37m ago 09.42 EST Full time: Sunderland 0 3 Newcastle United Newcastle have avoided embarrassment against their bitter rivals from the division below and weren’t made to work particularly hard for their win.
