Pune Porsche Crash: Police Granted Permission to Investigate Minor Suspect

The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) has granted the Pune Police permission to investigate the minor suspect involved in the fatal Porsche crash that claimed the lives of two IT professionals on May 19th. The 17-year-old is currently held in an observation home. The Juvenile Justice Act mandates parental presence during any inquiries involving minors.

According to the police, the teenager was allegedly intoxicated when he lost control of the luxury car, colliding with a motorcycle carrying the two victims in Kalyani Nagar. Shailesh Balkawade, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), confirmed that the JJB has authorized the investigation upon receiving the police request.

Calls for Investigation and Transfer of Police Commissioner

In a separate development, retired IAS officer Arun Bhatia has written to the Maharashtra Human Rights Commission (MHRC) chairman, requesting the transfer of Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar. Bhatia cited concerns about Kumar's conduct, emphasizing his leadership role in the city's police force. He expressed a lack of trust in the authorities, stating, "The present Police Commissioner cannot be relied upon to do this."

Bhatia further urged an investigation into the appointment of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), alleging political influence, and demanded action against the Health Secretary.

Previous Developments and Ongoing Case

Following the initial accident, the minor was released after writing a road safety essay. However, public outcry prompted the police to approach the JJB again, leading to the teenager's placement in an observation home until June 5th.

The case has also seen the arrest of the teenager's father and grandfather on charges of detaining and attempting to bribe the family driver to take the blame. Additionally, two doctors and a staff member from Sassoon General Hospital face charges of tampering with the teenager's blood samples to conceal potential intoxication.

The Pune Porsche crash continues to unfold, with the latest development allowing the police to formally investigate the minor suspect. Public scrutiny remains high, with calls for a wider investigation into the handling of the case.
