One dead in New Year's Day house fire in Surrey

Article content One person has died after a fire broke out in a home in Surrey on Monday morning. According to a Surrey RCMP statement, emergency services were called to the home in the 143rd block of 25th Avenue at 6:45 a.m. and found it fully engulfed in fire. “Four occupants managed to escape the blaze and are being treated for non life threatening injuries,” the statement read. “A fifth occupant was located deceased inside of the residence. The investigation is in the early stages and officers, in partnership with Surrey Fire, are making efforts to determine the exact cause of the fire.” 144th Street is closed in both directions and travellers are asked to find alternate routes.
