Photo by Tony Caldwell / POSTMEDIA Article content A 32 year old man was to appear in court Wednesday after an Ottawa police officer was struck twice in the head with a bottle following an alleged robbery Tuesday at a Bank Street KCBO. Police were called to a disturbance at the liquor store at 853 Bank St.

at about 5 p.m. Article content Police found the suspect a short distance away. When officers approached, “(the suspect) became combative and assaulted the officer with a glass bottle, striking him twice on the head,” police said. Despite the injury, the officer managed to deploy his conducted energy weapon to subdue and arrest the suspect.

The officer was treated for a head injury, but there is no word on his condition. The suspect was charged with assault with a weapon on a police officer and assault on an officer causing bodily. He also faces charges of resisting arrest, assault, theft under $5,000 and causing a disturbance.
