Jo Koy Mocks ‘Soft’ Celebrities at First Post Golden Globes Comedy Show

Jo Koy poked fun at the “soft” celebrities who witnessed his Golden Globes monologue firsthand at the comedian’s first stand up show since his disastrous turn as host of the award show. Taking the stage at St. Louis’ Stifel Theatre Friday, Koy first thanked his audience for welcoming him with a standing ovation following his rough week.

“This big hug that you gave me is all I need, swear to god. Fucking whirlwind, goddamn,” Koy said ( via Variety ). The comedian then launched into the reaction of his ill received monologue, but instead of blaming the writers again , he instead pointed the finger at the humorless celebrities at the show.

“Lot a marshmallows, man. They’re delicious, but goddamn, they’re soft,” Koy said. “I just come from a different time. I see the changes that are happening. I get it, but goddamn, can we fucking laugh at ourselves? He continued, “I got a feeling none of you motherfuckers watched it, and I’m kinda happy.

Oh my god. It feels good to live in this country. We get to say what we want to say. Don’t be apologetic about it at all. Be able to…speak your mind.” Variety reports that prior to Koy coming to the stage, a message at the theater warned “No heckling,” and that hecklers would be removed from the theater.

The show itself appeared to be incident free with a receptive audience. “I haven’t laughed in four days. I’m so happy. You guys make me so happy,” Koy told the crowd. During a bit about his recently deceased stepfather, Koy in a way looped back to his oft criticized Golden Globes hosting gig.

“You’re allowed to fail! Fail as much as you can. Just make sure you get the fuck back up,” Koy said. “Fuck up. Risk. Take a risk. Without any risk, you’re never gonna know if anything’s possible. I’m back, motherfuckers. Take that risk.”.
