Despite how it may look, this private island escape, known as East Sister Rock Island, is not in an exotic or particularly far flung locale. Instead, it is right off the coast of the Florida Keys and just so happens to be awaiting its next owner. Spanning nearly one and a half acres, the eco friendly retreat is about 120 miles from Miami and a mere quarter mile from Sombrero Beach in Marathon.
Listed for a hefty $16.5 million , the property features a 2,300 square foot main house and a detached guest cottage. In addition to the usual luxuries, the idyllic spread includes an epic 800 feet of water frontage, a dock for parking your boat, and, alongside the swimming pool, a helipad to land your chopper.
Originally built in the 1980s, the secluded sanctuary was designed to be self sustainable. The island is equipped with its own off grid backup battery that’s powered by solar panels and a wind turbine. Plus, water is collected off the pyramid style roof and pumped out through a 15,000 gallon freshwater cistern.
“East Sister Rock Island stands as a testament to sustainability, embodying a commitment to environmental harmony and responsible living,” notes the listing, which is held by Ember Duan of The Agency. The tropical getaway sits on a coral reef, surrounded by rocks that protect the island from crashing waves.
And, as one might expect, there are 360 degree ocean views from literally anywhere on the property. Altogether, there are three bedrooms and two bathrooms between the two bedroom main house and the one bed, one bath guest cottage. The island is being offered fully furnished. The interior is laid out in an open concept with wood floors, beamed ceilings, and plenty of windows and sliding doors for taking in the ocean views.
Essentially, the living and dining areas are one big entertainment space, complete with a media area, a bar, and a gaming/puzzles corner. Elsewhere, the renovated chef’s kitchen is kitted out with a granite island and backsplash, plus up to date stainless steel appliances. Both bedrooms in the main house sport high ceilings treated with high gloss reflective paint and unobstructed views of the Atlantic.
Of course, the environment is made for living outdoors, and for that, there’s a billiards area set up on the wraparound porch, along with an outdoor kitchen and lounge area. There’s also an expansive pergola, loungers by the pool, and a dock for water toys and boats. Click here to see all the photos of East Sister Rock Island.
