Here's who key lawmakers have already endorsed for president ahead of the Iowa caucuses

The 2024 Iowa Caucus is about to kick off—one week from now—where the first votes for potential presidential nominees will be cast. Getting off to an impressive start in the Iowa caucuses can significantly influence a candidate's journey, changing voter perceptions of their potential. More Republican members of the Houses are throwing their weight behind Donald Trump. With only a handful of significant GOP contenders remaining in the race— former President Donald Trump, Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida, former Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, and former Gov. Chris Christie, of New Jersey— the endorsements are crucial.

As of Friday, there has been an overwhelming number of endorsements for Trump from key Republican leaders. This includes 100 House Republicans, 19 GOP senators, and seven governors. Notably, every GOP representative in Alabama's congressional delegation and the entire Minnesota GOP group declared their support for Trump last week.

There seems to be a significant lead for Trump in the Iowa GOP's presidential caucus as indicated by recent polls that put Trump's support at 50% or more. The FOX Business poll puts Trump's support at an impressive 52%, significantly higher than DeSantis at 18%, and Haley at 16%. The Trump campaign's groundwork in Iowa far exceeds the effort put into his 2016 bid, where he lost by a sliver to Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas.

Meanwhile, the Democratic side sees Sen. Bernie Sanders, I Vt., and Senators Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, John Hickenlooper of Colorado, and Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut pledging their support to President Biden last year. However, Sen. Joe Manchin, D W.Va., has chosen not to endorse Biden.

Haley received endorsements from 72 notable Iowa public figures, including the retired political leader David Oman, Christine Hensley, who served the longest tenure on the Des Moines City Council, and lawyer Doug Gross. Gov. Chris Sununu of New Hampshire also endorsed Haley. Meanwhile, controversial ex-Iowa Republican Representative Steve King endorsed Vivek Ramaswamy last week.
